Why It's Important

Reflects the cost of local government per capita within a state. As costs of some government services may be shifted among state and local government, local revenue should be examined in conjunction with state revenue to get a better picture of government expense within a state. Obviously, tax collections will vary among local governments within a state, but this is a measure of local government revenues throughout the entire state.

Trend

Per capita local tax revenue collections in Pennsylvania ranked 31st, falling from 26th in 2009. The per capita average collection was $2,913 in 2015, $148 more than the median per capita collected in 2015.
