The percent of bridges structurally deficient in Pennsylvania is very high, driving the commonwealth to near the bottom of the rankings, with a current rank of 46th. Starting in 2016, the Federal Highway Administration stopped tracking and publishing the “functionally obsolete” measure, reducing percentages for all states across the board. In 2017, 18% of Pennsylvania bridges are structurally deficient, compared to the national median of 8.5%.
