What Is This

Percentage of students scoring at or above proficiency achievement level for mathematics, grade 4, by year, jurisdiction, for all students on National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Math tests for 2017.

Why It's Important

A measure of the quality of the education and a projection of mathematical proficiency of the future workforce. Important skill for careers in science and industry.

Trend

The percentage of Pennsylvania’s 4th grade students with proficient mathematics scores has not changed much, moving only from 45.51% in 2009 down to 44% in 2017, however, its ranking among the states dropped slightly from 8th in 2009 to 13th in 2017.
