What Is This

Percentage of the class of 2018 scoring a 3 (qualified) or higher on an Advanced Placement (AP) course exam during high school.

Why It's Important

Measures the level of participation and mastery of graduating high school students in AP courses that provide more rigorous educational opportunities and may be used in place of college introductory courses or accepted at colleges for credit.

Trend

The College Board’s report finds that the median percentage of students scoring a three or higher on an AP Exam has remained steady at around 60%. Pennsylvania’s percentage decreased slightly from 67.3% in 2015 to 66.9% in 2018. For the last few years, Pennsylvania’s ranking has fluctuated between 5th and 6th, falling in 2018 to a rank of 7th.
